Reading Stars
If your child reads at least 3 times a week, they are a Reading Star and are entered into a prize draw where they have the chance to win a reward!
Reading stars are a way of rewarding and encouraging parents and children to read together on a regular basis. Children love to win a prize and it really encourages and motivates them to improve their reading whilst at home.
Please read with your children every day (or at least 3 times a week) and return their signed reading record and book to school every day.
Homework
-
Spellings will be handed out on a Monday and are to be practised every night using 'look, say, cover, write and check.' The children will have a spellings test every Friday.
-
English and Maths homework will be handed out on a Friday to be completed and brought back to school by the following Tuesday.
Curriculum - Autumn Term 2020
English In English, we will be learning how to make our sentences longer and more interesting using adjectives, different conjunctions and openers. We will continue to focus on basic skills such as capital letters, finger spaces, full stops, handwriting and making sure that our sentences make sense. We will use these skills to write both fiction and non-fiction pieces. Ensure that your child understands the books that they are reading by asking lots of questions. You can also help them to practise their spellings daily and check that they understand the meaning of the words. |
Maths In Maths, we will be counting, reading and ordering numbers to 100.We will be using mental strategies to add and subtract and solve number problems. We will be learning how to multiply and divide as well so please help your child learn by heart the 2, 5 and 10 times tables and division facts related to each multiplication. We will also be learning to recognise coins as well as finding totals of money and finding change. |
Science In Science, we will be learning about animals including humans, growth and survival and exploring everyday materials. During these topics we will understand and explain food chains and animal life cycles and explain and explore the properties of materials. |
PE During our outdoor PE lessons we will be practising fundamental movement skills using balls and other equipment. During our indoor PE lessons we will be improving our flexibility, strength and breathing to boost our physical and mental health through yoga. |
Other subjects In Art we will be practising our drawing skills. In DT we will be designing, making (and definitely eating!) healthy pizzas. In RE we will be learning about Christianity and Judaism. |
