Meanwood Primary School is proud to be a Healthy School!

We have achieved the Healthy Schools Award every year since its introduction and we have recently been really pleased to gain accreditation through the Healthy Schools Enhanced model.

The Healthy Schools Enhanced model recognises our good work in addressing and preventing bullying in our school.

Healthy Food

We provide healthy food throughout the day to our children. Breakfast club and school meals include a range of healthy choices, including a selection of fresh fruit and vegetables.

All the children up to Year 2 are given a free snack of fresh fruit or vegetables and milk every morning.

In Key Stage 2 we run a daily tuck shop where children can get a healthy snack free of charge. Children can access drinking water all day and are encouraged to drink whenever they need to.

The Golden Grin Award

The Golden Grin Award is awarded each year for promoting good oral hygiene and healthy eating with younger children. Our Nursery have been recognised for promoting Healthy Schools and has been awarded the Golden Grin Award again this year!

Sports and Exercise

We have excellent facilities for PE, including 2 school halls, big playgrounds and a huge school field.  Our children all take part in at least 2 hours a week of PE, and as they get older, they have the chance to take part in lunchtime and after school sports clubs and compete against other schools.

KS2 children have access to 3 playing courts on the school playground, with outdoor games including football and basketball available to play at breaks and dinner times.

Emotional Well-being

At Meanwood, we have a very strong school ethos where each individual child's needs are recognised.  If a child needs extra support, the staff at Meanwood are brilliant in doing what we can to help.  Our Learning Mentor provides excellent pastoral care available to all children in their classrooms.  We also employ a qualified Children's Counsellor on a part time basis. Referrals to see her are made by children themselves, parents or staff. Parental consent is sought prior to counselling commencing.
